Peter was renowned for his joie de vivre and, above all, his love of family life and a father’s natural pride in his family’s many achievements.  This was never more evident than the joy he felt when hearing Helena and James perform in concert, whether on violin, viola, piano or any combination of the three.

Peter devoted a huge amount of effort and resource in supporting Helena and James in their endeavours.  From music lessons at one end of Cornwall to the other end of Devon, not to mention travelling the country when Helena and James both achieved selection to National Orchestras, Peter provided not only parental encouragement, but also the necessary transport!

Those of you who were able to join us at the Celebration of Peter’s life in early November witnessed first hand the talents of both Helena and James.  Helena showed incredible composure in performing her personal tribute on the viola and we were all moved by the recording of the duet performed by James and Helena.  Both certainly merit their places in the National Children’s Orchestra and National Youth Orchestra respectively.

We established the Peter Clarke Music Trust with two aims in mind:

  • Firstly, to keep alive Peter’s memory and hold events in his honour; and
  • Secondly, in furtherance of Peter’s express wish to provide continued support for the musical education of Helena and James

This website, which we intend to regularly update, is designed to meet both of these goals.  A number of events are being organised over the coming months by Peter’s friends and business colleagues with any funds raised being used towards the Trust’s commitments.  We are also able to bring you news of the latest achievements by James and Helena and show how the Trust is helping to grow these talents.

The Trust has raised just over £9,000 to date through donations and fund-raising events.  Since inception, we have contributed £2,700 towards music lessons and a further £1000 in NYO course fees.

We are honoured to be the Trustees of the Peter Clarke Music Trust and we would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of you who have offered support, whether in the form of cash donations or event organisation or simply transport to take Helena and James to their music lessons.  Without you the Trust simply would not exist and we are delighted that we can now start meeting the Trust’s stated aims.

Thank you!

John Westwell, Kevin Moseley, Adrian Copplestone and Steve Clarke
