About Plymouth
Plymouth is one of England’s oldest and most interesting cities.
Spectacular sea views from Plymouth Hoe and Plymouth Barbican make this waterfront city one of Britain’s most beautiful locations.
Plymouth nestles between Dartmoor National Park and the Atlantic Ocean. A mild climate and open green areas make Plymouth one of the best city environments in the UK.
Plymouth’s low crime rates, vibrant waterfront nightlife and friendly locals make it a great place to live.

Plymouth’s Regeneration.
Plymothians are keenly aware that the city is currently in the middle of an enormous programme of revitalisation that will make it one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.
Wide boulevards, imported trees and one of the newest shopping malls in England will combine with both magnificent modern architecture and the historic Barbican area.

Plymouth – England’s Historic City of the Seas
Standing on Plymouth Hoe, looking out to sea, you can easily believe that you are a major Mediterranean city. With the green headland cradling the harbour on either side and palm trees nearby, across the water you glimpse the rolling hills of Mount Edgecombe Country Park.
Plymouth is not like anywhere else in Britain and its proud seafaring heritage is apparent everywhere.

Plymouth, Devon
Plymouth is the biggest city in Devon and has the largest number of businesses and shops in the region. Plymouth City Centre has a wide range of shops as well as three large department stores.
Plymouth Barbican is a great source of the unusual – shoppers can browse through a variety of small independent stores, including antique shops and art galleries. Afterwards, they can enjoy a drink or a meal in one of Plymouth Barbican’s many wonderful ‘al fresco’ venues, offering views across the Marina.
The name of the city, Plymouth, originates from the fact that the city is located at the mouth of the River Plym.

Plymouth – City of the World
Plymouth is famous as the starting point for many historic voyages. The Pilgrim Fathers set out from Plymouth Barbican’s Mayflower Steps for America and Sir Francis Drake played his famous game of bowls of Plymouth Hoe before sailing out to defeat the Spanish Armada.
Plymouth is where Sir Francis Chichester began and ended his first solo circumnavigation of the Globe. Plymouth Hoe is where Captain Cook and Charles Darwin set sail on their most famous journeys.
